Roles and Responsibilities
As custodian of your account, Fidelity Clearing Canada ULC is responsible for:
- The clearance and settlement of securities transactions
- In conjunction with Marksman, producing and delivering statements and transaction confirmations
- The custody (or safekeeping), receipt, and delivery of cash and securities
- The extension of margin credit upon approval

Industry Regulatory Organization of Canada (IIROC)
As a clearing broker, Fidelity Clearing Canada ULC is subject to the rules and regulations of the Investment Industry Regulatory Organization of Canada (IIROC). IIROC is the self-regulatory organization which governs registered investment dealers in Canada. IIROC members adhere to rules and regulations surrounding conduct of business and marketplace integrity.
Canadian Investor Protection Fund (CIPF)
Fidelity Clearing Canada ULC’s accounts are also protected by the Canadian Investor Protection Fund (CIPF). CIPF covers customers of CIPF Member broker/dealers who have suffered financial loss solely as a result of the insolvency of a CIPF Member broker/dealer. Detailed information concerning CIPF protection as well as rules and limits of coverage are available at www.cipf.ca. As a regulated member firm Fidelity Clearing Canada ULC has a responsibility to follow certain rules and principles to safeguard your assets, including:
- Keeping accurate records of your assets held at Fidelity Clearing Canada ULC
- Maintaining capital at required level
- Safeguarding of cash and securities
- Segregating fully paid securities so as not to be used for lending or investing by Fidelity Clearing Canada ULC
